I am blind, and for a long time I was told that software was not a realistic path for me. Not out of cruelty. People simply did not know how a blind person would read code, navigate a screen, or keep up in a fast class. I half believed them.
Sanifu's inclusive curriculum was built with learners like me in the room from the start. The materials worked with my screen reader instead of fighting it. The exercises were designed so I could finish every one without waiting for someone to describe an image to me.
Building on my own terms
I graduated able to build and test small web applications on my own. Now I help review new course materials before they ship, checking that the next blind learner will not hit the walls I used to hit. Accessible by default is not a slogan to me. It is the reason I have a career.
